Yesterday I finished the show and holy shit do I have so many opinion about this show, so does everyone else on the internet appearently. So, the show is based on the books by Caroline Kepnes, and is developed by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble. The story is about a humble guy in new york living his life as the manager of a bookstore, but then he falls in love is a girl named Beck and he becomes infactuated by her. So, naturally he follows her and "protects" her from anyone who does her wrong. Little does he know, murdering people isn't the most attractive thing you could do, so her encounters many obstacles that get in the way of both his killing spree and his lover (who knows nothing about him but he know everything about).
(SPOILERS AHEAD don't read if you haven't finished this show) Alright so that is my overall description of actually every season, just replace the name of Beck with any other love interest and replace the setting. Thats whats really fascinating about the show, every season is the same concept of falling in love with a girl, having a great time manipulating her into dating him, then murdering everone that makes her sad or whatever even if its her family???? then eventually its either 1: she finds out that he is a serial killer, tells him he is a psycho, then she fucking dies. ORRR 2: she accepts him for the murders he did (he only tells her the kills that make him look like he was doing self-defense) and continues to date him. However, every relationship experiences that stale, vanilla, part, when the honeymoon phase is over and its time to actually settle. It is quite boring, but healthy. Is Joe boring OR BETTER YET healthy????? nope. SO what happens in scenerio #2 is that he actually grows bored of his girlfriend and/or wife and finds an excuse to cheat on her.
For instance, Love murdered that baby sister because she was grooming her brother Forty. You would think that Joe would have been like "Oh!... shes just like me, protecting the people she loves" The thing is, he found the fact that Love getting close to how twisted he is. He very much hates himself. That is no surprise. He hates that he scared his mom away with his violence. So he was seeking for a girl to take the place of him mom, and to tell him that killing people is okay, and that she will stay with him even if he continues to do so. Love literally killed people for her own self gradification, and he found that revolting. You know why? he saw himself in her. He didn't want to date a person like him, because he finds himself revolting. No, he wants a damsel in distress, who needs saving just like in the little romance books he reads.
Joe truly is a romantic. He sticks his nose in books to escape his life. In order for him to feel like he deserves to live is when he thinks he is proteecting his mother-- I mean his lover. Because he does feel like white knight. That's what Bronte made him feel. Like he was saving a stray cat from the world. But he doesn't want to suffer the consequences of saving his lovers, so he lets innocent people or people that are somewhat assholes suffer the consequences. Actually, he kills the assholes and blame the innocent people for the murders, all while he runs away with his lovers. That is another thing that gets me frustrated with the people of the internet. Ppl think he is dexter, where he can just get away from all of the suffering he has caused to everyone around him. I mean, he could, but that would literally not even be possible by the end of season 5. Everyone knows who he is, he is literally Ted Bundy, looks like him too (sorry Penn).
